Our Monocultivar first DOP extra virgin olive oil contains its own history in its name. It is obtained from the olives of the first collection of the vintage, it was our first oil to be rewarded in 2001 and was the first Dop Monti Iblei certified Evo. Thanks to our long work of experiments on the field and in the Frantoio it was possible to start the process for the recognition of what is now considered one of the most valuable and refined Sicilian PDOs.
Over 170 prizes in just over 20 years
Our first PDO has been on the podium of the main national and foreign competitions for over 20 years and has collected about 170 awards from 2001 onwards. Constantly present in the prestigious Flos Olei guide that monitors the best extra virgin olive oils at an international level. Always a finalist at the prestigious Ercole Olivario competition and several times winner in the various categories. He obtained the first place in 2019 at the Sol d’Oro of the Sol in Verona Salone where every year he is a fixed guest of the last selection phases. Primo Dop has reached the finals and won at least once all national and international competitions dedicated to the oleary excellence. From the Oil Oil Competition of Los Angeles to the Feinschmecker Olivenöltest - Oil Award of Zurich. It is also always reported in the main gastronomic guides, such as Slow Food and Red Gambero who also assigned us the prestigious star for obtaining the three quality leaves for ten consecutive years.
Tonda Iblea: the precious variety of south-eastern Sicily
The variety of Tonda Iblea olives, one of those that gives life to the precious Dop Monti Iblei, is typical of the vast limestone planking of Sudoriental Sicily which is also our home. We are in the hinterland of the provinces of Syracuse and Ragusa: here, the olive trees of this variety have grown for millennia between vast plateaus and deep valleys. Secular plants are predominant and alternate with the new plants by dressing the hills together with pulleys, almonds and screws. Together with Moresca, another typical variety of this territory, the Round Hyblean dominates this territory and produces an oil with a balanced, rich and tasty, intense and persistent flavor, with an unmistakable hint of tomato and fresh grass.
